Welcome ...

Barristers’ Block wines came into being initially on a very small scale: we kept some of the quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from our Wrattonbully vineyard just to see what would happen. The outstanding result, needless to say, encouraged us to continue to pursue the making of quality wines. We believe that, for us, there should, and will, never be compromises in this regard - we love wine as much as the next aficionado, and would never ask you to consume a wine we don’t unequivocally enjoy ourselves. Hence, we have an unstinting commitment to quality.

Consistent with our philosophy of excellence, we decided not to confuse you with a plethora of choices, but you can rely on the quality of each and every wine we offer you. Call it a consequence of a fragile ego or a danger of investing our hearts in this passion, but whatever you call it, the end result is the same: an eminently drinkable drop.

Soon to be opening early in 2008 is the new Barristers Block Cellar Door located on the vineyard at 141 Onkaparinga Valley Road, Woodside, South Australia.  Barristers Block Wines have recently gained a James Halliday 4 ½ Star Rating, is described as “an excellent winery able to produce wines of high to very high quality, knocking on the door of a 5 Star Rating.  The cellar door welcomes group bookings and will be offering gourmet platters for those who wish to relax and enjoy the wines in the tranquil surrounds of the vineyard.  We also welcome enquiries from parties who wishes to utilize the grounds for private occasions such as weddings, corporate gatherings and family celebrations.

As a boutique wine label, we have to - and do - carefully select those to whom we entrust the making of our wines, and their creativity, technical excellence, and passion illuminate every drop - from our refreshing sauvignon blancs, through the thrill of the sparkling GSM to the luscious Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon Sauvignon and Barossa Shiraz, all the reds lovingly matured in 100% French oak barriques.

Oh, and the name? The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon suggests it on its label: the fact that Barristers’ Block exists today is a tribute to the strength of its founder, Jan Siemelink-Allen, and the support and belief of several dedicated legal professionals. We felt it would be only just if the name reflected this.
