The Vineyard ...
We produce at this stage approx 2000-2500 cases per year and have taken a very soft and deliberate approach to growth. We have the potential to grow the brand but have chosen at this stage to keep the production at about the same for the foreseeable future and do what we do to the best of our ability and always striving for ways to improve our quality rather then quantity.
At present we are producing:
- Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir
- Adelaide Hills Riesling
- Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc
- Wrattonbully Cabernet sauvignon
- Wrattonbully Shiraz
- Barossa Shiraz
- Sparkling Grenache, Shiraz and Mouvedre (Barossa)
We export small parcels of our wine to Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Vietnam ad most recently Germany. Outside of this, our wines are sold through our cellar door or direct to our retail and on-premise customers.

Our ‘Flagship’ wine, straight from our own vineyard, is a Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon, which has been aged in French oak for 18 months. This wine displays wonderfully rich cassis flavours, and demonstrates amply how a truly well-crafted wine can optimise the elegance and depth one might traditionally attribute to this region. As you would expect from such a drop, it will continue to improve with further bottle ageing.

The Barossa Shiraz is notable for its full body yet velvety softness and elegance. The wine has been crafted in 100% French oak to enhance the delicious Barossa fruit without the usual heavy oak finish, and thus eloquently demonstrates those full-bodied flavours with a kid glove finish.

The sparkling GSM - titled ‘Legally Red’ in keeping with the legal theme - is a blend of our Wrattonbully Shiraz with Barossa Grenache and Mourvedre. The quality of this wine is another tribute to its maker, Richard Langford, who has created a superb blend to arrive at a refined sparkling red dominated by real fruit, without straying to cloying sweetness - a rather elegant and classy dry sparkling red, in other words. Two versions of this superb bubbly are now available - both offer a very similar taste experience (not entirely surprising, given that Richard made both), with the 05 perhaps a little drier and a smidgen more sophisticated on the palate.

Adelaide Hills is an area renowned for its wonderful Rieslings, and ours is no exception to this rule, rather most definitely a firm confirmation. As you would imagine it shows the typical attributes of this area and will continue to improve in the bottle (it already has – we tend to consume the occasional drop at home, trust me!). What strikes us every time we partake is the exquisite lavender perfume, accompanied by a deliciously crisp and fresh finish interspersed with mouth-wateringly rich lime and flavours.

The Vineyards ...
The family own two vineyards: one in the Adelaide Hills based at Woodside, and the other in Wrattonbully (just north of Coonawarra).
The Woodside Adelaide hills vineyard produces Sauvignon Blanc (15 acres) and Pinot Noir (5 acres). The vineyard produces grapes for another iconic wine label as well as our own Barrister Block Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc – and our Sauvignon Blanc was name in the Top 10 (actually listed as number three) in the James Halliday wine guide 2008.
At present we only produce around 500 cases of Sauvignon Blanc under our own label. We do have the capacity to further expand this number, but at present have no immediate plans.
We have produced a Pinot Noir from the estate this year and will be releasing this wine in 2009. We have only produced 300 cases at this stage, but again, there is capacity to increase production.
We have 28 acres of vines in the Wrattonbully GI region. There are 20 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and 8 acres of Shiraz. We will be releasing our first Wrattonbully Shiraz next month and have 300 cases of this wine. We additionally produce 1000 cases of the Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon each year.
We also source from a small vineyard near Tanunda in the Barossa valley approx 8 tonne of fruit for our Sparkling GSM, and a small batch of fruit for our Barossa Shiraz each year. The Sparkling GSM is the only Sparkling GSM made in Australia and we produce 1000 cases of this wine .The Barossa Shiraz has already sold out - we produce around 500 cases of this wine each year at present.
